the best candidate for the job. As soon as you walk through that door you

Things to do BEFORE an Interview

  • Write down the time, date, phone number, address and contact person
  • Be sure you know exactly how to get there and check travel time
  • Do your homework on the company and gain knowledge about them
  • Understand what the job is and what will be expected of you
  • Know how your education and experience will benefit them
  • Consider practicing the interview so the answers come smoothly

  • Get all your clothes together and ready to go the night before
  • Dress neat and clean, wear subdued colors, wear very little jewelry
  • Brush your teeth, comb your hair, wear deodorant, keep fragrance low
  • Be there ON TIME or even a few minutes early!
  • If an emergency comes up be sure to call and reschedule

Things to do DURING an Interview

  • First impressions happen in the first 17 seconds
  • Greet them with a smile and a confident handshake
  • Sit up straight, focus, keep eye contact with the interviewer
  • They want to see that you are enthusiastic about the position
  • Be sure to not have cigarette smoke or alcohol on your breath
  • Do not be chewing gum while in the interview
  • Stay positive, do not focus on your weak points
  • When asked questions keep answers short and to the point
  • Stay on topic, this is not the time for life stories
